Each summer, we hire two groups of Green Teen interns, ages 14-24, to participate in a 12 month paid internship.
Green Teens start their internship in June with a rigorous two-week training program, during which we prepare them to do fieldwork, run our weekly farm stands, lead volunteer groups, and conduct community outreach. The training also covers plant biology, proper tool usage, community agreements, customer service and sales, and our protocols for attendance and hard work.
Throughout the summer, the Green Teens work together on our Saratoga and Far Rock Farms to grow over 100 varieties of organic vegetables and flowers, distribute 15,000 pounds of produce to our communities, and develop important skills such as leadership, responsibility, teamwork, and successful work habits.
By the end of the summer the teens complete a capstone project and have a wealth of new knowledge. In the fall, the students remain as part-time instructors in one of our community or inter-generational learning projects.
