You can help families in our community by making a donation of any size to the BSCAH Thanksgiving Emergency Relief Fund. Every dollar that is donated will go a long way to help struggling families and individuals of all ages to get the nourishment they need. A $25 donation will purchase 20 meals, a $50 donation will purchase 40 meals and a $100 donation will purchase 80 meals.
Why we need your help
Every year, thanks to all of our generous and reliable donors, BSCAH serves 232,146 nutritious meals during the Thanksgiving holiday to 25,794 individuals in the Bedford Stuyvesant, Brownsville and Ocean Hill neighborhoods of Brooklyn, New York. This year, we forecast that we will serve 35,338 individuals to 318,042 meals, an overwhelming 37% increase, as BSCAH continues to serve those who are still impacted by the devastating effects of both the economic recession and Hurricane Sandy.
Furthermore, we anticipate that before Thanksgiving, government funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (“SNAP” or “The Food Stamp Program”) will either end or be reduced so drastically that those who are already in need will rely 100% on organizations like ours for emergency relief. This cut in funding will not only put significant strain on our food pantries but also on the critical health and social services programs that we offer to ensure that our clients are able to lead healthy, productive and self-sufficient lives.
